U.S. Head Lettuce Production Statistics (1993 - 1997)

Most of the head lettuce is produced in California (72%) and Arizona (25%). The total U.S. head lettuce crop for fresh market was harvested from 201,800 acres in 1997, and yielded 68,542,000 cwt (average yield = 340 cwt/acre), with a total value of $1,187,830,000. Production of head lettuce in 1997 was up about 4% from 1996.

The following data shows production (cwt), harvested acres, yield (cwt/acre) and total value ($) of the fresh market head lettuce crop for the major head lettuce producing states for the period 1993 to 1997.
