Some 250 species of Eragrostis, the love grasses, are known -
with about 40 native in the United States. Only a few have agricultural value.
Some species produce abundant growth on soils of low fertility and are
valuable for protection of eroding sites. The species of most value in the
United States are Boer lovegrass,
Weeping lovegrass,
Lehmann lovegrass,
and Sand lovegrass.
