California produces most of the U.S. commercial broccoli crop. A total of 134,200 acres of broccoli were harvested in the U.S. in 1997, with a total yield of 17,315,000 cwt (average yield = 129 cwt/acre), and a total value of $495,515,000. In 1997, production of broccoli for fresh market and processing was up about 12% from 1996.
