Midwest Nut Producers Council Formed

The Midwest Nut Producers Council is a non-profit Michigan corporation formed in 1989 to explore and capitalize on the commercial production and marketing of hardy nuts in the Eastern States. Current primary focus is on sweet edible chestnuts, hardy Persian walnuts, and filberts.

Membership in the Council is open to all those interested in commercial production, processing, and marketing of northern hardy nuts. The Council promotes interest in nut bearing plants; scientific research in their breeding and culture; standardization of names and registration of worthy cultivars; improved production techniques; increased efficiency in production; industry-wide grading and quality standards; marketing strategies; the dissemination of information about nut bearing plants and nut products; and the encouragement of greater usage of these plants in Midwest agriculture.
