OROBANCHACEAE

Phelypæa aegyptiaca, Hook. f. & Thomas ex Hook. f.; Walp. Tunisia: the floral stem is removed at a point beneath the flower. Being starchy, it is dried, reduced to a flour and then mixed with barley flour. The Chambaa and the Touareg eat the plant raw or boiled. It is considered diuretic. Ref. BOUQUET.

Phelypæa lutea, Brun.; Desf.; Perry. Tunisia: as for Phelypæa aegyptiaca (q.v.) Ref. BOUQUET.

Phelypæa violacea, Desf. Tunisia: as for Phelypæa aegyptiaca. It is parasitic upon the following vegetation: Zygophyllum album, L.; Zygophyllum cornutum, Coss. [ZYGOPHYLLACEAE] and sometimes Limonastrum guyonianum, Dur.; Boiss. in DC. [PLUMBAGINACEAE]). Vernacular names - Arabic: Danoun, Denouss, Barnouk, Ouras, Khares, Tertout el kelab, Zebb el kaa, Fetekchan, Zebb er -roumi (Gabes dialect), Zebb el nasrani (Gabes dialect). Berber: Idergis, Abouchel -n -tekkouk. Touareg: Zimzellil, Temzellit, Aheliouine. Ref. BOUQUET.
