ONAGRACEAE

Epilobium angustifolium, L. (syn. Chamænerion angustifolium (L.) Scopli.) Norway: a flour is obtained from the roots which is baked into flat cakes. Vernacular names: Rose Bay, Willow Herb, Fireweed. Manchuria (eastern forests): leaves used as a tea- substitute. Ref. BARANOV, SAYCE, UPHOF.

Epilobium hirsutum, L. China: stems and leaves eaten. Violent poisoning with epileptiform convulsions has been reported caused by these leaves. Vernacular name: Hairy Willow -Herb. Ref. OLIVER, READ.

Epilobium pyrricholophum, Franch. & Sav. China: leaves eaten with oil and salt. Ref. READ.
