The tomatillo is closely related to the Ground Cherry. The plant is an annual, 3 to 4 feet high, with thin ovate or elongated notched leaves. The fruit is smooth, sticky, purplish in color, and entirely enclosed in a thin husk. Fruit is 1 to 2 inches in diameter, near globose. It is used in making chili sauce and for flavoring meat by Mexicans and other Latin-Americans; but is little grown in the U.S.
Production in the U.S.: No data. Very limited.
Use: Mainly as seasoning, in chili sauce and with meats.
Part consumed: Entire fruit after husk removed.
