Perennial ryegrass

This is an important cool-season bunchgrass, introduced from Europe, where it has been grown under culture for more than 3 centuries. The numerous leaves are long and slender. In this country it is best adapted to the Pacific Northwest. The major use is in permanent pastures where it is usually seeded in mixtures with other grasses. It thrives best in cool, moist regions with mild winters. It is nutritious and palatable both for pasturage and hay.
