Molassesgrass is native to Africa but was introduced into Puerto Rico from Brazil. It is a tropical grass, reaching to three feet, excellent for grazing, but poorly adapted for hay or silage as it does not tolerate repeated mowing. It is valuable for pastures in Puerto Rico. It produces seed, in contrast to most tropical grasses, and is seed propagated.
