Planter's Palette Summer Garden Tour, Sale and Contest

Saturday, July 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The third annual Planter's Palette Garden Tour and Plant Sale scheduled for Saturday, July 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. will again feature a variety of gardens, the TCMGA Plant Sale and a Container Design Contest. Sponsored by the Tippecanoe County Master Gardener Association, this year's July tour date offers a special peek at the middle-of-summer peak explosion of color, growth and garden bounty that's not available on traditional June garden tours.

Advance tickets ($8 each or two for $15) are available from June 10 through July 9 at Bennett's, D & R, Koehler's, all Lafayette/West Lafayette Ace Hardware and Lafayette Bank & Trust locations, and at the Farmers' Market on Saturdays under the Knickerbocker awning on the east side of Fifth Street. Day-of-tour tickets are $10, and only available at the TCMGA Plant Sale at Congress Street United Methodist Church at 2010 Congress Street in Lafayette. For ticket questions or information call Mary Ann Nester at (765) 447-8160.

Planter's Palette Tour

The tour begins in the Congress Street United Methodist Rose Garden, where participants will pick up garden brochures, maps and water. The remaining gardens may be visited in any order. This year's gardens include the church's rose garden, four remarkable Master Gardener gardens in Lafayette and West Lafayette, a demonstration vegetable garden, a certified wildlife habitat garden, and unique golf course plantings. Tour participants will learn what's in the gardens, what it took to make the landscaping and hardscaping work, and gather ideas to use in their own gardens.

TCMGA Plant Sale

The TCMGA Plant Sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. again provides the opportunity to pick up affordable, Master Gardener-grown plants, seeds and planters for your own garden. Come early for the greatest selection or, if you feel lucky, come later for discounts on the already low prices.

Container Design Contest

This year's contest offers three divisions—professional, open and Master Gardener—and three categories to explore:

Judges will look for good use of color, balance of live plant elements, and choice of container in all categories. Pre-registration is not required. All containers must be dropped off between 8 and 10 a.m. at the TCMGA Plant Sale at Congress Street United Methodist Church, 2010 Congress Street in Lafayette, and must be picked up by 3 p.m. Judging begins at 10 a.m. At noon plaques will be awarded to winners of the professional division, gift certificates to winners of the open division, and ribbons to Master Gardeners. Pre-registration is not required. For contest information contact Teresa Thompson at (765) 497-4462 after 1 p.m., or Mary Firestone at (765) 742-1925.
