Gardening Ideas Blossom at Purdue Garden Day

Gardeners, mark Saturday, July 19, on your calendar for Purdue University Garden Day! This annual open-house event will be held from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. at the Purdue University Horticulture Building and Gardens on the West Lafayette Campus.

The festivities include guided tours of the ornamental gardens, a gardening information booth, and gardening lectures, presented by Purdue experts. Morning tours of the Horticulture Greenhouses will also be available.

This year's ornamental garden features vertical flower columns adorned with annual bedding plants and vines. In addition, many different perennials, including over forty cultivars of choice hosta and daylilies, will be in their prime. The hostas in particular have absolutely come into their peak with this year's cool, moist spring weather.

The gardening lectures, held in air-conditioned comfort, will cover garden diseases, nuisance critters, and the health-promoting aspects of gardening.

Purdue Consumer Horticulture Extension staff and the Tippecanoe County Master Gardeners will be on hand to help answer your gardening questions. Master Gardeners are volunteers of the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service.

All of the events are free and open to the public. The Purdue University Horticulture Gardens are located adjacent to the Horticulture Building at Wood and Marstellar Streets on the West Lafayette Campus, just north of the Purdue Veterinary School. Free parking is available on Marstellar Street, east of the Horticulture Building and Gardens.
