In this session, seeds of knowledge will be planted about invasive species of all types. Jodie Ellis, Purdue Exotic Insects Education Coordinator, will present the latest information on Emerald Ash Borer and other insect pests. Ms. Gail Ruhl, Interim Director of Purdue’s Plant and Pest Diagnostic Lab, will discuss Sudden Oak Death and Purdue’s involvement with plant & pest biosecurity issues. Dr. Mike Dana, Purdue Landscape Horticulturist, will explore potentially invasive plants. Dr. Bob Waltz, will provide the state’s regulatory perspective as the Director of Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Division of Entomology & Plant Pathology.
As an ordained minister, psychotherapist, and stand-up comedian, and police chaplin, Dr. Miller knows how to juggle careers and even personalities. He earned his for graduate degrees while headlining clubs and theaters across the country. He brings audiences a practical, humorous perspective to the life-balance blues. By incorporating comedic routines into his thoughtful observations on life and stress--moving, literally, from lectern to stand-up mike -- he helps his audiences step back and laugh at the daily challenges of life and take away practical tips. Dr. Miller has been a frequent guest on a variety of television shows, including Larry King and Rosie O'Donnell, he has also been profiled on NBC's Dateline and in People magazine. Will is a contributor to Entertainment Weekly and was a spokesperson for the National Institute of Mental Health. His books include Why We Watch: Killing the Gilligan Within and Refrigerator Rights. Dr. Miller hosted his own talk show on NBC, The Other Side, and was the on-air spokesperson for Nick-At-Nite for five years.
This program stimulates discussion and clarification of the goals of the MG program and what types of activities are acceptable for Master Gardener volunteer service. While some activities are clearly acceptable or not, what about those “gray” areas where it is not so clear? Can those activities be modified to make them more acceptable?
This session will be a discussion of different ways that Master Gardeners have an impact in the community through demonstration gardens, community gardens, Plant a Row for the Hungry and others.
Ms. Sharp will present a slide presentation of some of the best under used perennials and woody plants for the Indiana landscape (with handout).

Participants will explore the woody plants of the Purdue campus, weather permitting. So wear your comfortable walking shoes!
This workshop on plant propagation will cover all types of cuttings. In addition, we’ll look at division and, for inspiration, a few seeds as well. (limit: 20)

In this session, we'll use an Internet scavenger hunt to learn about various strategies for finding information on the Internet and discuss how reliable or credible the information we find might be.
Enjoy this unique opportunity to see Mary Firestone’s garden in full bloom while strolling through three and a half acres of lush greenery and magnificent color. Among the tours available will be a walking Mandela garden (which is a meditation garden in a circular shape) a mixed flower tour, a daylily walk, a rose walk, and an antique barn. Also highlighted will be a faerie wood designed by Mary and her daughter.
