The Horticulture Club met at 7 pm September, 6, 2006 in the
head house potting room. The foragers provided the club with pizza. The meeting
started off by discussing old and new business. For old business we discussed
dues. They will be $7 per semester or $10 for the year. Dues should be paid
the Kristi Sheldon.
For new business we talked about the Indiana Flower Growers Association conference.
If anyone is interested in attending they should see Mark Watson. We voted on
a new Ag Council representative. Nominations were open and Lindsay Varner was
nominated. She accepted and is the new Ag Council representative. Future meeting
activities were discussed. We will be having some speakers and possibly a Bonsai
workshop. Ideas were discussed for this years service projects. Some of the
ideas were: LUM dinner, flower arranging at the nursing home, after school program
at LUM, and picking apples at the Purdue research farm and donating them to
a food bank. The horticulture gardens were also discussed. Mary Lou will need
some help moving all of the plants out of the gardens so that the new garden
can be installed. The club discussed the possibility of helping Mary Lou out
with the transplanting. We also talked about doing a club calendar where we
provide the pictures for each month. If we decide to do this we are going to
take pre-orders for the calendars. The club also voted on the destination for
fall trip. The choices were St. Louis or Ohio. The club voted on St. Louis.
More will be discussed about fall trip at the next meeting.
The activity for the night was plant propagation with Mary Lou Hayden. She will
be showing us some techniques for plant propagation.
