Jim Simon, M. Benady, Denys Charles, and G.E. Miles received the 1996 Superior American Society of Agricultural Engineers Paper Award for their paper entitled "Fruit Ripeness Determination by Electronic Sensing of Aromatic Volatiles" in Transactions of the ASAE, Vol. 38, No. 1.
Allen Hammer received $2,365 from Paul Ecke Ranch to support poinsettia research.
Randy Woodson received a Value-Added Grant in the amount of $20,000 for support of his project entitled "Postharvest and Field Performance of Genetically Engineered Flowers with Improved Floral Longevity".
