Center for Community and Environmental Design (CCED)

The Landscape Architecture Program at Purdue University maintains three primary goals: Education, Research and Community Outreach. The Center for Community and Environmental Design (CCED) accomplishes the third goal of working with local communities throughout the state of Indiana to enhance their opportunities for sound environmental planning, development and growth.
Working with student design teams, the center interfaces with communities and the design profession to bridge the gap between providers and consumers of planning services. The CCED often prepares early action studies which identify key issues and broad approaches to solving the specific issues facing Indiana's communities. Upon completion of preliminary study phases, the CCED identifies appropriate professional services for the community allowing them to pursue solutions in greater detail to higher professional standards.

The CCED benefits the communities of Indiana by providing planning services they may be either unaware of or unable to afford. The CCED benefits the professional community of Indiana by developing projects and project leads where none had previously existed. The CCED benefits the students in Purdue's Landscape Architecture Program by offering `real-client' and `real-scenario' situations not typically afforded via the traditional academic experience.
