Touring the Facility
[.pdf] 2006 HGRH Greenhouse Tour
Brochure
We've provided over 180 tours of the new plant growth facility since its
dedication in 1998. Tours can be scheduled by contacting the manager by
phone, email, or filling out the Tour Request Form electronically. For
tours for the public, we ask three-week's advanced notice. Spring is our
most requested season for tours, so scheduling may be more difficult.
Tours for industry or academia are usually given by the manager, and focus
heavily on technology. Tours for the general public, including schools,
are usually given by Master Gardener Docents, who balance the technology
aspects with the benefits of our work. Docents are also knowledgeable about
the adjacent Horticulture Variety Trial Gardens. Since we are primarily a
research facility, we don't have a conservatory of jungle-like plants or
many areas of vivid flowering plants. The tour does not as yet have
activities for children, but does move fast enough to keep most interested.
Tours are free and take 30-45 minutes, depending on the interest level.
Free parking for vans and busses is available behind the greenhouses, and
much of the facility is handicap accessible. The tour does require standing
and walking and many of the greenhouses are 75-degrees or warmer.
We are located at the intersection of Hort Drive and Harrison Street,
West Lafayette, IN 47907
