Assignment:
Deliver an Oral Presentation Describing the Internship Experience and its Relationship to the Activities of Professionals at the Garden, Arboretum, or Other Public Horticulture Institution
An important goal of this oral presentation is to provide an opportunity for students to deliver a formal seminar in public horticulture to a horticulture audience of faculty and peers. This presentation should focus on the specific duties and assignments of the intern during their internship experience, and include a description of how the intern's responsibilities related to those of other professionals at the garden, arboretum or other public horticulture professions. As such, another goal of this presentation is to provide an opportunity for the student to explore in-depth at least one aspect of a public garden profession, and communicate lessons learned to their peers.
Format of presentation:
Duration: 35-40 minutes with a 10-15 minute question period.
Format: Slide show should be presented using a laptop computer, LCD, and Powerpoint Software.
Material to be presented. To meet the objectives outlined above, slide shows may include a variety of different images, including garden photos, text, tables, figures, and charts. The well-prepared student will begin work on this presentation during the internship period through seeking needed information from the professionals and resources available on site at the garden or arboretum. The student is advised to purchase or borrow a camera to obtain relevant pictures at the garden or arboretum site during the internship period. Nevertheless, the oral presentation should not simply be a series of garden images, but instead include different types of images as needed to best communicate lessons learned during the internship experience.
What to submit. A copy of the slide show must be submitted to the instructor on disks or via email at the time of the seminar presentation. If a CD ROM disk is required to hold the entire file, then the instructor will download it into the hard-drive of the laptop computer and you can keep your disk.
