Swiss chard stalks grow vertically from the crown of the
plant, each stalk ending in a broad leaf blade. Swiss chard
can be distinguished from rhubarb by its very prominent leaf
veins. Also, Swiss chard is much smaller than rhubarb.
There are cultivars that have white, yellow, orange, or
green midribs, veins, and stalks, as well as some with red
leaf blades.
