Avocado - Fruit

Avocadoes have an elongated oval shape, somewhat like an egg. They are narrow at the top and widen at the base. The skin ranges from light green to black, depending both on the cultivar and the degree of ripeness. The avocado you see most often, the Haas, turns from green to black when it is ripe. The skin of the avocado is leathery and bumpy and the flesh is bright green and has a large, brown pit in the center.
