The
Horticulture Gardens at Purdue's West Lafayette campus are a source
of knowledge and beauty for students and visitors, alike.
The gardens are a living classroom. There, university classes meet, student workers and volunteers get hands-on training in garden maintenance, and visitors learn about garden plants and gardening techniques.
And the gardens are a retreat. Their beauty and soothing atmosphere make them as much a place to enjoy as to learn.
In just under half an acre, the gardens display a wide diversity of plants, including over 300 cultivars of annual flowers and garden vegetables. Vistiors can see how cultivars perform in side-by-side plantings featuring many new cultivars.
Since the gardens were established in 1982, collections have grown to encompass nearly 200 species of perennial flowers and foliage plants. Special collections include peonies, daylilies, hosta, spring-flowering bulbs, and ornamental grasses.
The
gardens are located adjacent to the Horticulture Building at
Marstellar Street and the Agricultural Mall. They are open for public
enjoyment year-round, seven days a week. You'll find self-guided tour
brochures when you visit the gardens, or you can request one by mail.
You can also make an appointment for your group to be given a guided
tour.
And we invite you to join us in our efforts to ensure that the Purdue University Horticulture Gardens will continue to enrich the mind and spirit.
You can become a "Friend of the Gardens" through a tax-deductable contribution to the Purdue Foundation. We'll use your contribution to support the educational programs of the gardens and to establish new plant collections. As a "Friend," you will receive a garden guide each spring and an invitiation to special events such as the Purdue Garden Day open house.
