Gardening Online at Purdue University

Gardeners will find a wealth of information at their fingertips from the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service. And the best part is, thanks to the Internet, this information is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays!

Several departments at Purdue have Web sites of interest to gardeners. Horticulture offers a broad range of information on the Consumer Horticulture Web site, including current news releases, Extension publications, upcoming events and a list of public gardens to visit in Indiana. There's general information about the Master Gardener Program, as well as a list of the counties sponsoring trainings and how to contact the local coordinators. And we are adding new information all the time. To visit the Consumer Horticulture home page, set your Web browser to http://www.hort.purdue.edu/ext/.

Once you've had a chance to browse our site, you'll find handy links to dozens of other Web sites around the country and even the world. Here are just a few of the sites that you'll be able to access from our home page.

The Purdue Plant and Pest Diagnostic Laboratory http://www.ppdl.purdue.edu/ppdl/ has information of interest to gardeners and commercial farmers in solving plant problems. One of the more popular features is the "image of the week" http://www.ppdl.purdue.edu/ppdl/weeklypics/. Can you identify this week's mystery?

Do you need information to help your lawn recover from the summer drought? Purdue's Agronomy Department offers timely "Turf Tips" http://www.agry.purdue.edu/turf/tips/index.html.

Has your garden been bothered by bugs? Try Purdue Entomology's Vegetable Insect site http://www.entm.purdue.edu/entomology/vegisite/. You'll find lots of other insect-related information online at http://www.entm.purdue.edu/entomology/ext/.

Purdue's Veterinary School has information about plants that are poisonous to livestock and pets at http://www.vet.purdue.edu/depts/addl/toxic/cover1.htm.

Many Purdue Extension bulletins from all of the contributing departments are available for downloading from http://www.agcom.purdue.edu/AgCom/Pubs/menu.htm.
