'SAMARA' means winged seed. As he did with many of his designs, Wright named the house after a natural feature. His inspiriation was derived from the winged seeds found, not in maples or in ash (as shown in the photograph below) but in pine cones, a favorite tree of John Christian's. Wright's geometric abstractions of winged seeds are evident throughout the home, but are most apparent in the design of the clerestory windows. Pines and evergreens also established the landscaping theme as designed by Wright for the home's grounds.
